ABOUT
If you are a stranger, you are now a friend.
As friends, consider yourself family.
I was born and raised in Bend, Oregon. I feel lucky every day to have grown up in such a wonderful place that provides streamlined access to multiple recreational opportunities year around.
I am an avid adventurer that regularly enjoys backcountry skiing, mountain biking, trailrunning, hiking, snapping photos, filming and travel. My family, friends and relationships with others create a solid foundation to my pool of happiness. My main objectives are to inspire others through positively executed actions while managing risk appropriately and pushing my known limits.
Professionally, I have raced and coached enduro mountain biking for Bend Endurance Academy, coached development and competitive freeskiing for Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation and the Alyeska Ski Club, written the Outdoor column for The Source Weekly newspaper, modeled for numerous companies in outdoor, food, lifestyle, action sports categories, and won the best bloody mary ever bartending contest in Alaska.
I have been featured on social media by my sponsors ON3P Ski Co, BlackStrap, Tokyo Starfish & Ablis CBD. Additionally, I have been featured by the companies Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort, Visit Bend, The Ski Journal, Birdseed Food Co, Food For The Sole, Cairn, Coffee 4 Kids, Cush Core, Crater Lake Spirits & Majestic Heli Ski Alaska. In 2018, I was featured in a story for The Great Outdoors on Central Oregon Daily News. ->http://zolomedia.com/great-outdoors-outdoorsman-rex-shepard/
I am a passionate photographer and filmmaker, learning from masters at capturing the moment. I picked up my first camera in 2011 and am currently shooting with a Sony AX53 and GoPro Hero 7 for video and the Sony HX90-V and Iphone 8s for photos.
As an athlete I have worked with photographers such as Pete Alport, Brian Becker, Tyler Roemer, Trevor Lyden, Anelise Bergin, Hames Ellerbe and Greg Stafford.
One must find what direction to follow in life and for as long as I have known, my compass has pointed towards the mountains. I am an aspiring heli-ski guide in the process of gathering guiding experience and avalanche education in Alaska, with a goal of becoming an AMGA Ski Guide. To become a more valuable team player in the mountains, I have been educated in the realms of wilderness medicine and avalanche education. I have been a current Wilderness First Responder since 2009 and recently attended an AAA Pro 1 Avalanche course in 2019.
In 2011, a few friends and I completed a multi-sport human powered expedition spanning the entire Cascade Mountain Range. The Cascade Challenge traveled over 1,000 rugged miles and climbed over 55,000 feet in just forty-three days by the means of cycling, hiking, climbing, and ski mountaineering. Mt. Baker, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Washington, The Three Sisters, Broken Top, Mt. Thielsen, Crater Lake, Mt. Mccloughlin, Mt. Shasta and Lassen Peak were all climbed during this amazing experience and the majority of them summited!
In 2012, I guided professional skier Lucas Wachs on his first day in the backcountry on Broken Top, Oregon.
In 2014, I guided professional snowboarder Ben Ferguson to his first summit and descent of a volcano in the Cascade Range, South Sister, Oregon.
In 2015, I guided professional skier and BASE jumper Matthias "Super Frenchie" Giraud to his historic first Ski BASE in the Central Oregon Cascades on Broken Top.
During 2018, I moved to Alaska to pursue my dream of becoming a helicopter ski guide and take advantage of the seemingly endless adventure and exploration opportunities in the 49th state.
I look forward to going on an adventure or working with you in the future!
